COMEDONE EXTRACTION

Comedone Extraction

What is Comedone ?

Comedones are the skin-coloured, small bumps (papules) frequently found on the forehead and chin of those with acne.  Open comedones are called blackheads. As they appear black because of surface pigment (melanin), rather than dirt. Closed comedones are known as whiteheads. here the hair follicle is completely blocked.

How does Comedone Extraction work ?

Comedone extraction works by using a special tool known as a comedone extractor to physically remove the blockages from the follicles. This can only be used on acne that has not become inflamed, such as whiteheads and blackheads.

What are the possible side effects ?

Possible side effects of comedone removal include

  • Pain or discomfort

  • Infection.

Comedone extraction should only be conducted by performed by a dermatologist. If comedone extraction is not done correctly there is a risk of pushing blockages deeper into the skin as well as a risk of skin damage and scarring.
